The Long Gun Magazine is one of Dover Castle's hidden secrets. Located close to the Officers' Mess, it is Victorian in origin and was presumably the main magazine for the gun battery above. It consists of a large vaulted chamber (the actual magazine) with it's surrounding lighting passage and a long underground gallery leading between the two entrances. It was obviously in use during WW2 as there are some great original features, including old toilets, sinks and an old stove. There are also numerous period signs on the walls. Access to this area is not available to the public, this was a special tour of the Friends.
