I was so upset to witness that the city has permitted this once popular and magnificent structure to become just a derelict memorial. I spent my first 18 years in and around the fort. What most impressed me are the deep underground corridors and dungeons. No electric lights down there. I believe you might be confusing Crownhill Fort with Woodland Fort. Woodland was constructed about the time of the English Civil War. Crownhill was designed to guard against Napaolean's 'damn Frenchies'.Ernest Middletonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26925549.post-69568587426755876492012-11-17T00:11:30.154+00:002012-11-17T00:11:30.154+00:00This Palmerston Fort in Plymouth is actually known...This Palmerston Fort in Plymouth is actually known as WOODLAND FORT.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26925549.post-30676023235104005762011-04-17T22:26:54.749+01:002011-04-17T22:26:54.749+01:00The next Fort along is not Agaton Fort,it is in fa...The next Fort along is not Agaton Fort,it is in fact Knowle Battery,at West Park which was turned into my first school,Knowle Primary School in the early 1950's.
BarryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26925549.post-54770060337819941852010-09-06T16:57:19.698+01:002010-09-06T16:57:19.698+01:00Sorry, it was just the way I worded it. I believe crownhill is now open to the public as some sort of tourist attraction, Woodlands is at honicknowle and is as you say use by variuos groups. The next fort along to the west,(where I grew up) is Agaton fort which is used by the Dept of transport, spent hours snooping around here trying to find a way in as a youngster,
thanks again, Ididnt want to be anonymous but its too comlicated to get an identityAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
